CHUNGKING EXPRESS
Chunking Express is the exact movie you’d like to watch at 2 am on a rainy night with a feeling of melancholy and solitude. Throughout the movie, you'll experience the mixed feelings of a hopeless lover, an obsessed, and the parallelity of two lonely souls. With its moody visuals and stunning cinematography, Wang Kar Wai - director of the movie - will indulge you into his world of saturated colors and slow motion. General eyes might find this tale as a love story, but it’s something beyond that, this movie is a feeling which resonates from the characters and scenes, then breaks the screen and captures our heart.
Here, two lonely hearts encounter each other: one is He Qiwu, a heartbroken cop, and the other is a mysterious woman in a blonde wig who’s involved in drug smuggling. Even though their lives are very different, their feelings somehow connect with each other through the same expression of solitude. We also find Faye Wang, who secretly falls in love with He Qiwu, the main narrator. These individual, yet somehow connected characters carry the movie towards an ending.
He Qiwu carries the whole narrative of the tale, notwithstanding that, every character has got its justice in the film. He Qiwu’s narration itself is a whimsical experience; mused with the characters like Faye Wang, pop songs like California Dreaming, this film will leave you with a crave for love and a faithful companion with whom you can share your solitude.
